Information About BioTech Mills, Inc.
BioTech Mills, Inc. is a private Delaware corporation headquartered in Snow Hill, North Carolina, which develops and manufactures renewable natural plant and plant fiber products. The company owns and operates the largest natural bast
fiber processing and manufacturing facility in North America. Our factory locations are in Snow Hill, North Carolina, Eastman, Georgia and Kolcuta, India. The company also has
manufacturing facilities that provide the largest amount of natural oil absorbents in North America with inventories of over 35,000,000 pounds.
Our oil spill absorbent products and containment hard booms are shipped globally to contain and absorb even the largest oil spills. Our containment oil spill products meet
the latest oil industry specifications for hard booms.
Many of our products are made from a plant called kenaf. Kenaf is in the hibiscus family that was grown for fiber in ancient Egypt and Northern Africa in a time span that goes back over 3000 years.
The ancient Egyptians used kenaf bast fiber for sails, sandals, bags, and even cloth because of its
strength and durability. Kenaf is not in the hemp or jute family but is a close relative of okra and hibiscus.
The kenaf plant grows to over 15 feet tall in 150 days and the crop is planted in the spring and harvested in the fall.
Kenaf also converts more greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide) than almost any other plant grown in the World.
We are truely a green company. Our products help the environment in ways like: helping oil well drilling fluids meet the EPA standards for discharge in our oceans,
providing the best in products for oil spill clean up,
chemical spill clean up, soil remediation, and soil erosion control. The company also produces kenaf bast
fiber products for the plastic composites and plastic extrusion industries. We provide our bast fiber to
many of the largest automotive companies in the world and it makes their automobiles lighter and
stronger for better safety and better mileage.
Our biotech research scientists are developing new technologies that make natural fiber: fire retardent, hydrophobic,
hydrophilic, antimicrobial and compounded for better adhesion to plastics.
We are performing research in plant genetics for fiber crops that provide better cellulose generation,
better plant growth, stronger bast fiber, and better natural fiber composite materials.
The roots of our company are in research and development.
